My friend is in Samdrup Jongkhar; a pure, organic, local tourist from Thimphu.

I don’t vividly remember how we ended our final days at RIM. Maybe we didn’t have final days only. But, after choosing the placement, I remember receiving calls from some of my friends. There, to each other, we said, “Rumay, Bhutan is a small country. Chas ne la yeg cho, anytime”. I didn’t realize that ‘anytime’ means ‘no time’.

Nonetheless, this time, Tashi is here in Samdrup Jongkhar. Indeed, Bhutan really is a small country. He might have expected my home with all the mod cons. But, I am certain that he might have learned the lesson never to trust the empty cave, after visiting my home. [But, I have home comforts though-I am not that much poor].

While he is here, I am making sure that he is spending and contributing to the local economic development. Every night I am taking him out to spend some bucks. But, I am also ensuring that he takes home some fond memories of Samdrup Jongkhar. So that when he sees the Network Arch Bridge alike somewhere, instantly, he will reconnect to the one here and miss desperately to return.

Likewise, I took him to boarded-up shops, Chain stores, fashionable boutiques, office blocks, pavement cafés [people living here, now! don’t tell me that we don’t have], residential areas, shopping centers, transport hubs, and other places of interest.

In brief, my motive was to make him get itchy feet next time when he is in Thimphu to come back. However, I am afraid that due to too many swimming pools on the roads, readily available cough-stimulating dust, and natural yellow-flowing drinking water, there is a high probability that he will excuse himself from ever visiting the place.

Yet, I remain wholeheartedly hopeful that at least he will exult Sharma’s puri and tea.
