Guwahati: The City of Hustle

 

I just wanted to ensure that during my entire stay in Samdrup Jongkhar, I wouldn't grow too attached to the place, as it would be difficult for me when I had to leave. For the first few years, I remained intentionally dormant, choosing to be alone. But gradually, I lost the momentum to keep up that vow, with down-to-earth friends supporting an exciting and thrilling life here.

In Samdrup Jongkhar, I often heard about Guwahati, but I rarely had the opportunity to visit. My cordial friends planned a two-day trip during the weekend, like a retreat to refresh their minds after the tedious June closing. So, this time, I joined them on the journey to the city of hustle.

Guwahati may have many adventurous tourism sites—we didn’t surf the net—but we enjoyed the ropeway over India’s longest river, the Brahmaputra. On the other end of the ropeway, we visited the historic temples. What was so mesmerizing to see were the cute monkeys harmoniously coexisting with the community.

Another reason for our trip to Guwahati was to enjoy the hustle of the city itself: the people, food, buildings, environment, and cars. In one way, I found it similar to the Philippines. However, as we entered the main city and tried to reach our destination, we made several rounds—even GPS wasn’t much help. This taught us the importance of having a guide in a metropolitan city.

The Guwahati experience was indeed really good. I thank all my friends for planning the trip. 😍
