I was a Moaning Minnie for some time when I started the job as Economic Development Officer a year ago. This was that, that was this is how I usually called off the day. I literally was a John the lad. But, I advanced under the guidance of Dzongdag which thrilled me to bits. Now, I am a johnny on the spot.
Guided by the Japanese philosophy of Wu-Wei, the art of letting things happen, I now fairly carry out economic activities that come on my way. As such, yesterday, I was invited to give entrepreneurship training to ten energetic youths at Youth Integrated Service Center. First, I thought I cannot make it. But, again, I thought it is the right time to make hay while the sun shines. Besides, I felt that I can help them one up on others in terms of entrepreneurship skills which is a step in the right direction.
The plus point for me was that I was given ToT on Entrepreneurship Development by my own parent agency, the Department of Cottage and Small Industries. So, I accepted to wear an entrepreneur’s hat.
Since they were getting introduced to entrepreneurship for the first time, I ensured not to overwhelm them with entrepreneurship/business jargon. I put myself in their shoes. I started telling them about the uncertainties occurring in the nation. I drummed potential business ideas in Samdrup Jongkhar into them. I highlighted the importance of planning and goal setting, entrepreneurship schemes provided by the government, and the competence required to become an entrepreneur.
In the end, I made them do blue sky thinking. However, it was not getting through to them. Since there is more than one way to skin a cat, I gave the example of Yellow Dock Roots drinks- how it was started. Instantly, their face brimmed with grins, the indication that they got what I was trying to inculcate.
So, at the end of the day, this is what every civil servant desires. What else can we think of than making a little difference in others' life!
